Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill

Product: Horizon Evolve SG Treadmill
Star Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Most of us who live out in the country really don’t need a treadmill, while those of us who live in congested urban areas really don’t have much of an option other than one.

The flip side is that if you live in flats, you’ve got to take into consideration the weight bearing capacity of the floor – some places actually have contracts that specify the amount of weight that you can put on the floor to avoid damaging it.

And a treadmill is heavy. Even the simple ones can easily top 250 lbs. And if you have a hardwood floor, there’s no way that you’re going to get away with jogging on the machine with someone else living below you – they’ll think that the roof is falling down on their heads.

And taking up a first floor apartment just so that you can use your treadmill, seems more trouble than the machine is worth it. You can very well get your exercise at a gym. It is specifically for such people that Horizon has brought out the Evolve SG compact treadmill.

To be frank, the Evolve is not much of a machine, and the features offered at the price that they retail at is really below par when compared to other machines. Yet there is one big advantage that you get with the Evolve, and that is it’s compact design and light weight.

Lets take a more in-depth look into the machine. We’ll divide it into advantages and disadvantages so that you’ll find it easier to decide if this is the machine for you.

Advantages Of The Horizon Evolve

  • It folds down to just 10 inches in height. This is more compact than any other treadmill that you will get. In fact’s it’s so small that you can even push it under your bed after you use it.
  • It weighs in at only 99 lbs. At this weight, most of us can even carry it and put it into our closet if we want to, or even place it behind a door without any problem.
  • You get a heart rate monitor with thumb sensors.
  • There are also two tiny speakers, although their quality leaves a lot to be desired. The jack however accepts everything.
  • There is absolutely no assembly required. You get it delivered as it is, and all you do is lift up the console and start using it.

Disadvantages Of The Horizon Evolve

It has only 45 inches of walking space. This means that for anything other than a normal, or slightly faster than normal walk, this machine is pretty much useless. Although it does have a weight rating of 200 lbs, there’s nothing you can do with it except walk on it.

The motor is only a 1.5 HP one. This is really low powered because these days even the low cost machines come with a 2.25 HP motor. But for the speeds that you will be doing on the machine, this is more than adequate.

Our Recommendation

We actually give this model a 4 star rating. We know, you’d be surprised, but then, the Evolve has been created for a specific purpose, and it does that admirably. There are no pretensions about it, Horizon tells you when you purchase the machine itself that it’s meant only for walking. You really cannot do much with a 45 inch deck.

You cannot compare it with any other model in the same price segment because it’s purpose it totally different. It’s is meant for those who have a problem with using a normal treadmill due to space constraints. Even the fold up ones are not that much of a help because they still occupy about 4 ft of your floor space after folding it up.

With the Evolve, you just push it under the bed and that’s it. It’s brilliantly designed, and even though you may complain about it’s lack of features, you must realize that it’s primary purpose is to give you a machine that works well, but that can also be stored easily. They have therefore made it less than 1 ft in height, and only 99 lbs in weight, and seriously what more can you ask for.

The warranty is however a let down, and although you get 10 yrs for the frame and 3 yrs for the motor, you get only 90 days for parts and labor. If the warranty were a little better we’d have probably given it a 5 star rating.

Users however are very surprised at their machine and don’t have any complaints even after months of use. It’s a simple machine that is targeted at one particular niche, and because it is targeted at only one niche, does everything that you can ask of it if you are there. If you aren’t in this group, it’s better for you to look at other models.

Hello! Just want to say that I am in great appreciation of this compact treadmill! I do have a concern though. I have owned this device for over the 6 month warranty period and for some reason it is now not working properly. After about 15 to 20 minutes on the unit it suddenly shuts off. It’s not the safety release that’s doing it. It just comes to a complete stop and it has become very dangerous. Is there a recall or is there something I can do to fix this issue. The unit is perfect for our small area and my wife really likes it. Can you please give us some advice on what to do?

Thanks
Derek
